Ready, Steady, Roar - ZooHood sponsors Beijing Biddies

Posted by

We have some very exciting news to announce. ZooHood are sponsoring some very adventurous old biddies who are preparing for their third and final challenge to raise money for two leading cancer charities. They've already driven from the UK to Beijing, which is how they became dubbed the 'Beijing Biddies', from the UK to the Arctic Circle and now they are driving around the UK in two customised Tuk Tuks.

Beijing Biddies

The challenge will begin on May 2nd and will see the ladies embark on a 16 day round trip start that will cover just over 1100 miles. They will start and finish in Carlisle, with stop-offs in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Harrogate, Cambridge, London, Merthyr Tydfil and Manchester. The team will stick to A and B roads, however, team leader, Edwina knows that the Tuk Tuks are difficult to drive and with average speeds of just 20 miles an hour, they will need to stick to strict timetables to complete the challenge on time.

The four man team will consist of the two original Beijing Biddies, Edwina and Kate and two relative newbies Helen and Kate. We say relative newbies, as these ladies joined Edwina and Kate last year for their non stop trip to the Arctic Circle. The ladies will take it in turns to drive the Tuk Tuks calling in on cancer centres around the UK bringing a little joy to some of the cancer patients.

To add a little fun to the jungle themed challenge we persuaded the ladies to wear Animal Onesies so look out for our bright orange Tiger onesie making an appearance in a city near you. Also look out for a couple of Koalas, our best selling Panda onesie and our cuddly Bear. The onesies are bright, cheerful and we hope that it will help them stand out on their adventure.

To date the Beijing Biddies have raised £80,000 for Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support and they are hoping that the Tuk Tuk challenge will help them reach their target of £100,000. If you are impressed by the ladies, then check out their route on their website, find out when they are visiting a city near you and go out and give them a glorious, warm welcome. Plus if you can donate any amounts at all then do head over to their site where you can buy Sponsorship Miles.
